ICL Lens Implants
ICL lens implants are options for middle-aged patients with severe myopia because the lenses of their eyes are still pliable and can still see at close distances.
ICLs offer patients the opportunity to reduce their dependency on glasses or contacts. The implantation procedure for ICL involves a procedure similar to that of cataract surgery, but the main difference is that the ICL procedure does not require the removal of the eye’s crystalline lens. As the natural lens remains intact, ICL patients continue to rely on it for up-close vision.
The ICL procedure does not involve the removal of sensitive eye tissue. The surgeon creates one or two small openings at the base of the cornea and these openings will be used to position the lens.
A gel-like substance will then be put inside the eye so that it can protect the eye during the lens placement. Then a small opening will be made in the eye to insert the lens. The lens is then folded and loaded into a small cartridge that is placed through the incision. When the lens is inserted, it will unfold in your eye. When this happens, the four corners of the lens are placed behind your iris.
Your vision may be improved on the same day as the ICL procedure, and it is usually a very quick visual recovery.
